Karachi University (KU) Merit Calculator 2026
Entrance test = pass gate (50%); merit = your Intermediate percentage
✓ Official sourcesUpdated AA Checked by Ali Ahmad
Karachi University does not add the entrance test to merit. For test-based programmes and Pharm-D you need at least 50% in the KU entrance test; KU then ranks you by your Intermediate percentage (+20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran in BS). Compare that percentage with KU's closing %, e.g. BS Computer Science 80.00% in the Admissions 2027 list. Official source
| Part | Weight | Usual total marks |
|---|---|---|
| Intermediate / HSC (Part I + II) | Your academic percentage: the figure KU's closing % is compared with | 1100 |
| KU entrance test | Not added to merit; you need at least 50% to be considered | 100 |
Minimum to be eligible. KU entrance test minimum: 50%; Intermediate minimum for KU: 45% (source: Prospectus 2027: Appendix G (open merit BS closing, Admissions 2026) and Appendix I (test based closing, Admissions 2026)).
Which figure does Karachi University compare?
KU does not build an aggregate from the entrance test. Its Prospectus 2027 (Appendix B, p. 142, and B(i), p. 145) says admission to the test-based programmes and Pharm-D is granted on the pre-requisite (Intermediate or equivalent) examination after you qualify the entrance test with at least 50%. So:
- Entrance test: a pass gate. Below 50 you are not considered for the main (score ≥ 50) list; a higher score does not raise your merit.
- Academic percentage = Intermediate marks ÷ Intermediate total × 100. This is the number to compare with KU's closing percentage.
- Hafiz-e-Quran: 20 marks are added for BS programmes (Conditions for Eligibility, p. 21).
The same academic percentage is what the open-merit departments (Mathematics, Physics, English, Economics, Psychology and others) use, without a test. Compare it with the category K figures in the open merit table on the KU merit list.
Worked example
| Step | Marks | Result |
|---|---|---|
| KU entrance test | 62 / 100 | 62% (at least 50: qualified) |
| Intermediate (HSC Part I + II) | 900 / 1100 | 81.82% |
| Academic percentage | 81.82% |
81.82% is above the Admissions 2027 closing figures for BS Computer Science (80.00%), Artificial Intelligence (79.73%) and Software Engineering (78.82%), but below Pharm-D morning (84.27%). With 45 in the test the same student would miss the score ≥ 50 list.
Lower test scores: the 40, 35 and 25 rows
After the main list, KU admitted candidates with lower test scores to some programmes, each against its own academic closing percentage. For example, BS Education closed at 46.09% for a test score of at least 50 and at 53.45% for a score of at least 40. Pick the Category filter on the KU merit list to see these rows; the calculator above compares with the score ≥ 50 list only.
Program minimums
KU does not admit anyone with a 3rd division or less than 45% in Intermediate. Some programmes ask for more: Pharm-D needs Intermediate Science (Biology group) with at least 60%, and BS Computer Science and Software Engineering need at least 55% in the listed Intermediate groups (65% for DAE holders). Check your programme in Appendix B of the prospectus before you apply.
Eligibility: KU entrance test minimum: 50%; Intermediate minimum for KU: 45% (source: Prospectus 2027: Appendix G (open merit BS closing, Admissions 2026) and Appendix I (test based closing, Admissions 2026)). Below a minimum, the calculator still shows your aggregate but lists no programs that need it.

Is 80% enough for BS Computer Science at KU?
80% equals the Admissions 2027 BSCS closing percentage (80.00%, test score at least 50, list of 19 October 2026), so it is exactly on the line. It was above Artificial Intelligence (79.73%) and Software Engineering (78.82%).
